Finance
Finance is the art and science of managing money. A finance degree offers students the opportunity to specialize in various areas of finance such as investments, financial institutions and corporate finance. In addition, courses are offered in real estate, risk management and insurance. Finance is a fairly broad field allowing one opportunities in a range of organizations. Unique to the department is a special program sponsored by Sterne, Agee & Leach, Inc. The Student Investment Program is an interactive program that allows a team of students to actively manage a real investment portfolio of $50,000 for which Sterne, Agee & Leach and the College of Business share equally in the gains.

International Business
The opening of markets abroad has created new opportunities for internationalizing a firm’s operation. The International Business program combines a strong background in language skills with business. All students concentrate in one of the functional areas of business such as marketing, finance, etc. This degree represents a blend for those who wish for a stronger liberal arts foundation than is typically available in a business degree. Career opportunities in IB typically relate to the area of business concentration. For instance, those students concentrating in finance typically take positions in banks or other financial institutions, corporations or investment firms. Once a student has secured the entry position and gained some experience, they are then able to move into an international position within the firm. IB students are strongly urged to participate in an overseas experience. While not required, we do believe that such experiences are valuable to IB students. Academic credit may be earned for such international experiences.
