Dean's Welcome

Paul M. Bobrowski, Ph.D.
Dean and Wachovia Professor
The business environment is a dynamic one; how do we conduct business, who are our customers, where are our markets, and how do we create value are just some of the questions that constantly need to be examined in order for a business to stay competitive. With the rapid pace of change in business increasing, these are exciting times for the College of Business too. We also must be ready to change the landscape of business education and our ability to educate and prepare the next generation of business leaders for the challenges of a global marketplace that operates continuously and almost seamlessly. We are in the early stages of our re-accreditation process with AACSB, the international organization for business school accreditation; it is an opportunity for us to examine what we do and how well we are executing as a College of Business. This self-study process required for AACSB re-accreditation has the College reviewing our strategic plan among many other things. As we move forward, we will explore many questions - What do we want to be known for? Do the projects we undertake help us reach our goals and fulfill our mission? What should our priorities be?
Reflecting on the role the Auburn University College of Business will play in the coming decade, I believe that three themes will resonate through all future endeavors: the role of technology, the impact of a global economy, and the importance of adding value through service. The communications and technology revolutions have taken time and location out of the equation. Free trade of the Americas and other pending legislation will make it easier for us to partner with international institutions to our North and South. Mass customization has created the "customer segment of one," making it necessary for institutions of higher learning to provide their students with more than the necessary knowledge base.
Of course, nothing can be accomplished without collaboration and support from all constituencies. Whether you are a student, an alumnus, an employer or any other interested party, I encourage you to browse the site to learn more about all we have to offer. After exploring our website, should you have any questions or need additional information, please don't hesitate to contact the Dean's Office, the Office of Student Affairs, or any of our academic department offices.
With Best Wishes,
Paul M. Bobrowski, Ph.D.
