Professional Activities:
Dr. Long is currently pursuing research in the following areas: documenting the effects of time pressure on auditor performance, improving the audit engagement quality review process, mitigating the effects of task interruption on auditor efficiency and effectiveness, and developing software to assist auditors in detecting financial statement fraud. He taught a variety of courses while earning his doctorate at Virginia Tech, including Survey of Accounting, Principles of Financial Accounting, Principles of Managerial Accounting, Intermediate Financial Accounting, and Auditing. He is a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), a Certified Management Accountant (CMA), and a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). He is also a member of the American Accounting Association, the Institute of Management Accountants, and the Institute of Internal Auditors. Prior to returning to Auburn, Dr. Long worked as an Audit Senior with Gifford, Hillegass & Ingwersen, LLP, and as an Internal Audit Manager with National Vision, Inc., both in Atlanta, Georgia.
