Professional Activities:
After retiring from the U.S. Army as a Colonel with 32.5 years of service, Professor Johnson was employed as a member of the Aviation Management faculty in the College of Engineering because of his Aviation and Air Traffic Control expertise along with his engineering background. From the beginning, Professor Johnson was assigned a 100% teaching and service workload. He taught a full load of academic courses from Winter 1989, through Spring 2000. Beginning Fall 2000, he was appointed as the Chair of the Aviation Management and Logistics Department in the College of Business. Since being appointed as Department Chair, he has taught two to three 3 semester hour courses each academic year. During the years he was eligible, he was selected five times as the Outstanding Teacher in the Program. In 2003, Professor Johnson was awarded the "William A. Wheatley Award", the most prestigious Award awarded by the University Aviation Association, in recognition of outstanding contributions to aviation education. Colonel Johnson is a member of the University Aviation Association, the Council on Aviation Accreditation, and Women in Aviation, International.
