Professional Activities:
Randy Garmon has been an Air Traffic Controller at Columbus Metro Airport since 1983. Prior to that time he served as an Aerospace Control and Warning Systems Operator in the USAF from 1972 to 1982. He was part of Weapons Control teams who performed Ground Controlled Intercept (GCI) duties, Aerial Refueling, Wild Weasel (SAM suppression), and several mission categories involving air to ground bombing such as Close Air Support (CAS), Air Interdiction and Reconnaissance flights to obtain intelligence before and after bombing. Randy’s USAF experience also includes Movements and Identification, Surveillance Tracking, ECM, Positive Launch Control. His last Air Force assignment was the NCOIC of Radar Operations Standardization and Evaluation in a NATO ground radar unit.
Mr. Garmon came to Auburn University in 1996 as an Instructor. Randy’s civic activities include membership in the Air Force Association http://www.afa.org/ and The Air Defense Radar Veterans’ Association http://www.radomes.org/. He also serves as an active member of the Columbus Georgia Airport General Aviation Committee, a six member body of aviation professionals who advise the local Airport Commission/Authority on all matters concerning General Aviation, airport development and commerce.
