Minor in Information Systems Management (ISMN)
Minors provide students with diversity. It shows a willingness to explore new topics and familiarize oneself with a variety of issues. We have students in both business majors and non-business majors who minor in ISMN. The Management Department offers to minors. They are Technical Systems Management and Information Assurance.
Technical Systems Management
Many American businesses need effective troubleshooters: individuals who understand systems and processes well enough to track down current as well as anticipate future problems. These companies are willing to pay top dollar for such valuable skils.
In response to this need, the College of Business partnered with Southern Union State Community College to provide training in these skills to Auburn students. This program hopes to fill the critical void between engineers and line workers. The program prrepares students for jobs that combine systems operations with technical skills.
What are the requirements?
Students are required to take three courses that combine theory with hands-on experience as well as a summer studio. The courses are:
- Fundamentals of DC Electricity and Circuits for the Non-Technical Manager
- Introduction to AC Power and Circuits for the Non-Technical Manager
- Solid State Electronics and Digital Logic for teh Non-Technical Manager
- Summer Studio (hands-on, realistic projects)
Information Assurance
Today, especially with recent scandals in the business community, information assurance is not only important but required by law. The AU College of Business has worked extensively with KPMG to develop a minor program that gives students the experience and understanding of this critical topic in today's business world.
Students who minor in IA generally pursue career opportunies in the areas of system consultancy, IT auditing, financial auditing, and financial management, though they are certainly not limited by these choices! Business majors or technical majors of all types are particularly encouraged to minor in this program, to enhance their hirability in their field.
