Associate Dean for External Affairs
The Division of External Affairs is comprised of five centers: Auburn Technical Assistance Center (ATAC), the Center for International Commerce (CIC), the Center for Management and Executive Development (CMED), the Small Business Development Center (SBDC), and the Auburn Policy Research Center (APRC). Each center is responsible for establishing contact with and providing services to private-sector organizations. Center funding is obtained from client organizations and government agencies at the federal and state levels.

Director, Auburn Technical Assistance Center (ATAC)
ATAC, a public service and research unit of Auburn University, provides management and technical assistance to private and public sector organizations. Using the resources of the entire University, ATAC projects have been conducted in diverse fields such as architecture, behavioral sciences, fisheries, pharmacy, recreation, and transportation. Examples of projects include: management and organizational analyses, market research studies, information systems design, feasibility studies, and technical analyses.
Consulting Experience:
1970 - Present
Consults with various types of organizations, including military, law enforcement planning, manufacturing, and anti-poverty. Problems dealt with have ranged from using linear programming for evaluating production alternatives to working with managers to increase their effectiveness. Consulting projects have included: (1) assisted the top management of a fertilizer producer in developing a strategic plan, (2) analyzed the management of a maintenance operation of a communications company, (3) identified training needs of foundry managers, (4) analyzed the management of a sporting goods manufacturer, and, (5) assessed culture change in an international appliance manufacturer.

Participate in numerous programs with private- and public-sector organizations on various management topics.
The Phoenix Program: Managing Change. A three-day program for executives and managers. Through videos, critical incidents, group discussion, and team involvement, participants develop skills necessary for managing the change process.

Over $1,000,000 in contracts and grants developed for research and extension projects. Funding organizations (and approximate dollar value of grants) include the Economic Development Administration ($675,000), Alabama Public Service Commission ($125,000), South Central Bell ($80,000), Alabama Law Enforcement Agency ($50,000), Alabama Power Company ($30,000), Diversified Products ($25,000). Numerous smaller contracts secured from other public- and private-sector organizations.

Chairperson, Business Tomorrow Conference. The Business Tomorrow Conference was a three-day conference held at one of the four-year institutions in Alabama. Sponsored annually by the Associated Industries of Alabama, it was intended to facilitate interchange among business people, faculty and students from the four-year institutions in Alabama. The chairperson was responsible for coordinating the participants in developing topics for the conference, coordinating speakers with national and local reputations, and in making arrangements for participants.
