Professional Activities
Dr. Long's research focuses on judgment and decision-making in the accounting context. His work has been presented to national and regional audiences, published in Auditing: A Journal of Practice & Theory, Advances in Accounting, Issues in Accounting Education, and The CPA Journal, and is forthcoming in the Journal of Acccounting Literature. In 2013, Dr. Long received the School of Accountancy's Outstanding Research Award. In addition, he served as a member of the AAA Auditing Section’s Subsequent Events PCAOB Research Synthesis Team (2011), and was awarded a Center for Audit Quality Academic Research in Auditing grant with Drs. Brandon and Mueller-Phillips (2010).
During his academic career, Dr. Long has taught Survey of Accounting, Principles of Financial Accounting, Principles of Managerial Accounting, Intermediate Financial Accounting II, Financial Statement Auditing, and Financial Statement Analysis & Valuation. He is a three-time winner of the Beta Alpha Psi Outstanding Teacher Award (2010, 2011, and 2012). In addition to his academic teaching experience, Dr. Long has provided continuing professional education courses to public accounting firms and professional organizations.
Prior to returning to Auburn, Dr. Long worked as a Staff Auditor and a Senior Staff Auditor with Gifford, Hillegass & Ingwersen, LLP, and as an Internal Audit Manager with National Vision, Inc., both in Atlanta, Georgia. He currently holds the Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), and Certified Public Accountant (CPA) (Georgia) designations, and is a member of the American Accounting Association, the Institute of Management Accountants, and the Institute of Internal Auditors.
