Resume Checklist

Taking a look at the sample resume as well as the sample traditional cover letter will give you a visual understanding of the formatting guidelines below.

General Information & Formatting

  • The information is accurate (no exaggerations)
  • Consistency in grammar, punctuation, and style
  • Standard business font (Times New Roman, Arial, etc)
  • Length: 1 full page for undergraduates
  • Margins: .75 to 1.0
  • Font size: 10.5 to 12

  • Name: font size 14-16 point
  • Current mailing address
  • Phone number: Be sure to have a professional sounding voicemail
  • Email address: Use a professional email address (Auburn email accounts shut-down 6 months after graduation) Turn Off Hyperlink

Objective (optional)

  • Short and concise statement about what you can bring to the position without personal pronouns, "I" and "my"

Education

  • Degrees are listed in reverse chronological order (most recent first)
  • Degrees are spelled out fully, Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (not BSBA)
  • Only schools where degrees have been received or study abroad programs are listed
  • GPA above 3.0 may be listed

Experience

  • Only job title, organization, city, state, and dates are included in identifying the experience
  • Bullet points are being used with strong action verbs to describe your experience
  • Bullet points should focus on your accomplishments in the position, what unique quality you brought to the position, and how it benefited the organization
  • Quantify experiences with #, $, or % as much as possible

Skills

  • Foreign language skills are listed by oral and written with appropriate proficiency, ex.-fluent, native, basic
  • Computer Skills are listed to include hardware and software relevant to the position
  • Certifications/Licenses have dates associated with them
