Welcome to Caribbean Business Study Abroad Program

Spring Break
March 24 - April 1, 2006

Auburn University College of Business

In today's global economy it is important for students, especially those pursuing a business major or minor, to be aware of how businesses operate in foreign countries. The more our future leaders learn through first hand experience of cultural differences between the U.S. and the rest of the world, the better they will be able to cope with the challenges of operating in a global economy.

Jamaica, a small country, is well known for its tourism, music, culture, and export products. A visit to this island through Auburn's Caribbean Study Abroad program (CSAP) during the Spring Break will provide students with a rich sample of the international business experience they need. Students will meet upper level managers of successful international and local companies in various economic sectors. We plan to visit companies such as Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee, Red Stripe Brewery, Appleton Sugar Estate, as well as a state-of-the-art recording music studio. And of course, no visit to Jamaica would be complete without experiencing the world famous Dunn's River Falls, Negril, and Doctor's Cave Beach.

Course Information

All undergraduate students must be of junior standing and possess a minimum 2.2 GAP. All graduate students must maintain a 3.0 GPA. Participants in this CBSAP are eligible to earn 1 hour of credit for MNGT 4950 or MNGT 7970 - Seminar in Management.

Location

Jamaica is a Caribbean island of just over 4,400 square miles situated about 500 miles south of Miami, FL. As a past British colony, which gained its independence in 1962, Jamaica's official language is English. As one of the leading tourist destinations in the Caribbean, there are many flights daily connecting Jamaica to the rest of the world including the U.S. mainland. A direct flight from Atlanta takes about 2.5 hours.

Cost

The cost of the program is $1,750 inclusive of airfare, lodging (hotel/townhouse), all meals, ground transportation associated with the program, all field trips, and recreational activities (visits to Doctor's Cave, Dunn's River Falls, Negril, etc.) Personal expenses and souvenir shopping are the responsibility of the student.
