History

1967 College of Business established from “School of Science and Literature” and was housed in Thach and Tichenor Halls
1967 Dr. O. D. “Jack” Turner appointed College’s first Dean
1970 Business Advisory Council established
1973 Dr. George Horton appointed Dean
1976 College gained undergraduate accreditation from the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB)
1980 College gained AACSB accreditation for the MBA program
1984 Dr. Ethel Jones appointed interim Dean
1986 Dr. Charles Kroncke appointed Dean
1986 Board of Trustees approved bond issue for the construction of a new building
1988 Dr. Robert Niebuhr appointed interim Dean
1989 Dr. Danny Bellenger appointed Dean
1989 College launched its Ph.D. program in management
1990 College ground breaking ceremony for the new building.
1992 25th Anniversary of the College of Business
1992 Building completion and dedication.  Named for Edward L. and Catherine K. Lowder of Montgomery
1993 Dr. C. Wayne Alderman appointed Dean
1997 College awarded re-accreditation and School of Accountancy received initial accreditation from AACSB
1998 College launched the Executive MBA program
1998 College receives $1.25 million pledge to establish the Robert and Catherine Lowder Center for Entrepreneurship and Family Business
1999 College launched the Physicians Executive MBA program
1999 Aviation management program moved from engineering to the College of Business
2000 Aviation management and logistics programs elevated to department status
2000 Dr. John S. Jahera named Interim Dean
2000 First courses in the undergraduate major in Entrepreneurship and Family Business are offered
2000 College of Business and the College of Engineering join together in a unique partnership to aid in the administrative support and promotion of existing outreach programs offered through both colleges as well as in the identification and development of new programs.  This new unit, Business and Engineering Outreach, is housed in Ramsay Hall and is under the direction of associate dean, Dr. William Sauser.
2002 Texas businessman Bennie Bray (AU Class of 1972) gives $1 million to help fund undergraduate honors scholarships and establish a faculty professorship in business
2004 Dr. Paul M. Bobrowski named Dean
